Environmental Orientation (EM101)
2 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Introduces the City’s Environmental Management System and offers a review of various environmental issues that may be encountered during City service. Required for all City employees by AR 1-19.

Environmental Stewardship (EM102)

4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
A review of a range of topics geared towards empowering individuals to making environmentally beneficial choices in their workplace routines. Recommended for all City employees.

Environmental Regulatory Overview (EM201)
8-24 HOURS (1-3 SESSIONS)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
This course provides a comprehensive overview of EPA and other environmental regulations and guidelines. Subject area included in this course are EPA history, specific regulations regarding surface water, air, drinking water, pollution prevention, hazardous waste, Superfund, and Community Right-To-Know. Recommended for Division managers, Directors, and Environmental Coordinating Managers or others with a wide range of environmental responsibilities.

Hazardous Materials/Wastes

Hazard Communication (EM110)
3 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Employees are trained to recognize risks from exposure to hazardous chemicals in the workplace, how to find and read important information on labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDSs), how to respond to workplace emergencies, and information about the proper use, storage, and disposal of chemicals in the workplace. Recommended for all employees who work with or in the vicinity of hazardous materials, and their supervisors, prior to beginning the job duties that places them at risk.

Parts Washer Training (EM112)
2 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Overview of the operational and equipment requirements of solvent metal cleaning processes. Required by MDNR for employees that operate a solvent metal cleaning process (parts washer). Refresher training required annually.

Hazardous Waste Management (EM210)
8 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Training includes topics such as performing hazardous waste determinations, proper labeling and marking, container storage rules, disposal options, recordkeeping, report writing, emergency response, and training. Required by EPA for employees whose duties include managing hazardous wastes at registered LQG facilities. Recommended for all employees that have responsibilities in managing hazardous wastes at City facilities.

DOT Hazardous Materials Transportation (EM220)
8 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Topics include DOT packaging regulations, container marking, placarding, load stacking, manifests and bill of ladings, emergency response, and security awareness. Required by DOT for employees responsible for preparing hazardous waste for disposal or for employees that transport hazardous materials in commerce. Refresher required every 3 years.

HAZWOPER 8-hour First Responder (EM408)
8 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Training is geared to teaching employees to recognize the hazards to humans present during hazardous materials emergencies and how to protect themselves from such hazards. Required by EPA/OSHA for employees and their supervisors, who work in the vicinity of hazardous materials and are likely to witness or discover a hazardous materials release. Refresher (2-hour) required annually.

HAZWOPER 24-hour (EM424)

24 HOURS (3 SESSIONS)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
During this course, the groundwork is established for future site-specific training needed by employees. Topics include: properties of hazardous substances, hazard recognition and risk assessment, selection and use of personal protection equipment, site evaluation, monitoring and safe work practices, incident command and emergency response, and decontamination methods. Required by EPA/OSHA for employees and their supervisors, responsible for responding to chemical releases or remediating the effects of past releases. Refresher (8-hour) required annually.

HAZWOPER 40-hour (EM440)
40 HOURS (5 SESSIONS)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Comprehensive training that meets off-site training requirements for general site workers and RCRA operations site workers. Topics include: properties of hazardous substances, hazardous recognition and incident prevention, selection, use and care of personal protective equipment, site safety and health responsibilities, plans and procedures, emergency response planning and spill containment, decontamination methods and procedures, and safe work practices. Required by EPA/OSHA for employees, and their supervisors, who have a potential for hazardous substance exposure while performing duties at hazardous waste sites or during emergency response activities. Recommended for emergency response personnel and other hazardous materials workers. Refresher (8-hour) required annually.

HAZWOPER For Supervisors (EM410)
8 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: HAZWOPER 40/24-hour training
Course is presented from a management perspective. It upgrades regulatory knowledge, technical knowledge, and skills. Required by EPA/OSHA for supervisors of HAZWOPER personnel.

HAZWOPER 2-hour Refresher (EM409)
2 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: HAZWOPER 8-hour First Responder
Refresher information about who to notify, how to minimize the spill or release, and how to respond to immediate safety concerns with exposure to the spill or release. Required by EPA/OSHA annually for HAZWOPER 8-hour certified employees.

HAZWOPER 8-hour Refresher (EM441)

8 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: HAZWOPER 40 or 24-hour
Refresher course that provides information updates, skills improvement, and hands-on exercises. Required by EPA/OSHA for HAZWOPER 24/40 hour certified employees.

Hazard Recognition

Asbestos Awareness (EM130)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Topics include health and safety information regarding the physical signs and effects of asbestos exposure, identification of types of ACM, steps to take if presence of asbestos is suspected, and precautions for avoiding exposure. Required annually for employees who perform housekeeping operations in areas which contain asbestos containing material or presumed asbestos containing material. Recommended for facility managers, maintenance supervisors, and employees in positions that may expose them to asbestos.

LEED Green Building Rating System (EM135)
7 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Course provides an in-depth look at the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED Green Building Rating system, including a review of the administrative requirements for registering a building for LEED certification. Required by AR 5-4 for all staff members who deal with occupied facilities over 5,000 square feet of net area and for senior management. Recommended for architects, facility managers, and employees involved in remodeling, renovation, and new construction of buildings and office spaces.

Lead Awareness (EM140)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Topics include health and safety information regarding the physical signs and effects of lead exposure, identification of lead-containing materials, steps to take if the presence of lead is suspected, and precautions for avoiding exposure. Recommended for facility managers, maintenance supervisors, and employees in positions that may expose them to lead containing materials.

Blood Borne Pathogens (EM150)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Topics include health and safety information regarding the physical signs and effects of exposure to blood borne pathogens, identification of sources of exposure, precautions for avoiding exposure, and steps to take if exposure is suspected. Recommended for employees who collect trash from public areas, health care workers, public safety officers, facility managers, maintenance supervisors, and employees in positions that may expose them to blood borne pathogen contaminated materials.

Non-Routine Worksite Awareness (EM120)

4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Employees are trained to recognize environmental hazards and environmentally sensitive situations which may be encountered while performing field work for the City. Recommended for employees performing non-routine worksite inspections and for all other employees who work at non-routine worksites.

Self Inspection (EM160)

4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Topics include site specific and uniform inspection methods, reporting procedures, applicable regulations and requirements. Recommended for employees responsible for conducting environmental self inspections and their supervisors.

Certification & Licensure

Certified Asbestos Inspector (EM310)
24 HOURS (3 SESSIONS)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Course of study approved by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) to prepare employees to be certified asbestos inspectors. Required by MDNR for employees who will perform asbestos inspections or take asbestos samples. Recommended for employees who will manage or oversee the performance of asbestos inspections or asbestos sampling. Refresher (4 hour) required annually.

Asbestos Inspector Refresher (EM331)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: CERTIFIED ASBESTOS INSPECTOR
Refresher course for asbestos inspectors. Required by MDNR for certified asbestos inspectors. Prerequisite: Certified Asbestos Inspector.

Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor (EM450)
40 HOURS (5 SESSIONS)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Course approved by the MDNR to prepare employees to be certified Asbestos Abatement Contractors and Supervisors of abatement projects. Required by MDNR for employees who will supervise asbestos abatement projects. Refresher (8 hour) required annually.

Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor Refresher (EM451)
8 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: ASBESTOS CONTRACTOR/SUPERVISOR
Refresher course for Asbestos Contractor/Supervisors. Required by MDNR annually for certified asbestos contractor/supervisors.

Certified MO Pesticide Applicator (EM340)
16 HOURS (2 SESSIONS)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Course of study approved by the Missouri Department of Agriculture to prepare applicators for the required State exam on rules and regulations governing the application of pesticides. Required by the Missouri Department of Agriculture for any employees responsible for application of restricted use pesticides.

Certified CFC Technician
DURATION VARIES
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Course of study to train employees who perform maintenance, service, repair, or disposal that could be reasonably expected to release refrigerants into the atmosphere. Prepares students to pass an EPA approved test to become certified under the mandatory Section 608 program.

Forklift Operator Certification (EM180)
6 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Training includes a combination of formal lecture and practical exercises and includes an evaluation of operator performance in the workplace. Topics generally include truck-related and workplace-related topics along with the requirements of the OSHA standard. Recommended for employees that operate forklifts or other powered industrial trucks.

Trenching & Shoring (EM165)
DURATION VARIES
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Introduction to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored and unshored slopes and walls of excavations. Various types of shoring are covered. Recommended for employees that are responsible for digging trenches or holes that may need to be entered.

Drive To Survive (EM170)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Course includes a review of safe driving techniques, driving hazards and tactics, and collision facts and associated costs of accidents. Recommended for all employees who drive a City vehicle.

Machine Safeguarding (EM185)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
The main focus of this course is to increase the participant's knowledge and skill in proper machine safeguarding techniques, and to highlight the benefits of guarding various types of machinery. Knowing when and how to properly safeguard machinery can reduce or eliminate the potential for accidents and injuries. Recommended for all employees that work with power tools.

Fall Protection (EM190)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Students are taught how to identify, evaluate, and control fall hazards in the workplace or job site. OSHA regulations requiring fall protection will be reviewed and an identification of hazardous situations is the primary focus of the course. Recommended for all employees that may climb ladders, use lifts, or other equipment that may put the employee at risk of a fall.

Electrical Safety (EM195)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Topics include: electrical hazards in the workplace, protective measures which provide protection from electrical shock, basic electrical equipment inspection procedures, and safe equipment disconnects and restart procedures. Recommended for employees that use electrical equipment during the course of their jobs.

Confined Space Entry (EM230)
8 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
This course covers OSHA's stringent guidelines concerning confined space areas. Topics include: understanding the OSHA standard, hazard identification and control, designing and implementing a permit program and discussion of emergency procedures. Recommended for employees entering manholes, trenches, and vaults to provide maintenance or repair.

Lockout/Tagout (EM240)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
This course helps protect employees from potentially hazardous energy. Topics include: requirements of the OSHA standard, essentials of the standard and its associated programs, how to develop, implement and maintain a functional program, purpose and use of hazardous energy control procedures and methods for retraining employees. Recommended for employees that work around electrical equipment or power sources.

Supervising For Safety (EM250)
10 HOURS (2 SESSIONS)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Topics include: defining safety and unsafe conditions and how to develop and implement a safety program. Recommended for field supervisors, managers, and directors.

Ergonomics (EM260)
4 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
This course is designed to help attendees reduce or eliminate the rising number of workplace injuries traceable to improper ergonomics. Attendees will gain insight into identifying, evaluating and solving potential ergonomic problems, including repetitive motion. Recommended for supervisors of employees who developed on the job musculoskeletal disorders.

CPR/First Aid (EM270)
6 HOURS (1 SESSION)
PREREQUISITE: NONE
Training includes adult CPR and is intended to prepare employees to render aid to individuals who have suffered personal injury. Recommended for all employees. CPR refresher required annually, First Aid refresher required every 2 years
