August 25 – Hallmark’s Zero-Waste Initiative Lunch & Learn

In a truly sustainable world, there is no waste since every “waste” has a corresponding beneficial reuse (“waste equals food”). Kansas City corporate citizen Hallmark Cards continues to work to be a good community citizen and to be more sustainable in its business practices. One of its recent initiatives in one of the buildings at its corporate headquarters complex is a pilot program for zero waste to the landfill. This program will provide EEBN members with an opportunity to learn more about Hallmark’s zero-waste initiative in the Rice Innovation Center.

$10 for EEBN members; $15 for non-members. Register by August 20.

September 24 - Building Green: What's the Cost and Is It Worth It?

Join EEBN to hear more about building sustainably from the design perspective, construction perspective and the operations and maintenance perspective. Also learn more about the opportunities and challenges of rehabbing an existing building as well as the opportunities and challenges typical with new construction.

October 8 - UMKC Sustainability in Action

On the UMKC Campus - Location TBA

See how the UMKC campus is at the forefront of sustainable action among higher education institutions in the Kansas City region. This event will include presentations by campus leadership including faculty, staff and students on current sustainability initiatives in education, facilities management, and student activities. Enjoy an eco-friendly breakfast and tours of the campus’ green features including green roofs, rain gardens, new LEED buildings, community gardens and more. Event partners include: UMKC Sustainability Team, Campus Facilities Management, Geosciences Department, Association of Engineering and Environmental Geologist (AEG), Environmental Studies Student Association (ESSA) and the UMKC Community Gardens.

Celebrate the fall season with good food, good company and great-tasting local brews from Boulevard Brewing Company in what has become an annual tradition for the Environmental Excellence Business Network.
